Practice is foundational for the cultivation of hobbies, learning of skills, and accumulation of (bodily and non-bodily) knowledge. But the practice of practice, is entangled in things like discipline, work ethic, patience, and delayed gratification, which can complicate practice, and make it feel heavy and difficult. In this performance project, I demonstrate my fondness towards balls and other objects that I have a “practicing” relationship with. When the practising gets tough, I transform into something else…
Eng Kai Er was born in Singapore, raised compliant, now mostly a question mark mixed with a complaint. After a horrifically misspent youth, she is rehabilitating herself through slow dancing and quick writing. Since Oct 2019, Kai has been studying MA Choreography and Performance at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies, Gießen. https://kaifishfish.tumblr.com.
