We have made ourselves comfortable in memory. Whether it's nostalgia, retro or disdainful backward-looking, people clutter up their own history to counter the hypercomplex present. Naïve nostalgia sits on grandma's vintage sofa next to German buffoonery. The German stag roars and Bowie once lived in Berlin. The view of the past is made impossible by the greed for narratives, but Schwarz Rot Gold gives in to greed and can't get its neck full.
The table is lavishly laid in the colors that everyone knows. What is actually being served here? Lunch, nostalgia, a shooting match or a decadent country party of city kids who have grown tired of (post-)modernity. Four characters meet in a house in the German provinces and ask themselves whether it is an anthropological constant that children always crave ice cream.
We are a group of young artists and have networked with each other through their joint work in independent projects and in the course of their training at the Institute for Applied Theater Studies in Giessen.
