In “Motherhood” Laura Schöning explores the themes of motherhood and being-a-mother under the aspect of her individual and personal experience before and after the birth of her first child. The result is a medial and documentary research approach, already existing representations are questioned. With regards to content, the question of how much the process of pregnancy and motherhood can be integrated in creative works. Which forms of inspiration are there, wenn the exchanged with other artistic creators is reduced to a minimum, because it’s not possible, to always be there? Which chances are there as an artist, who has become a mother?
Laura Schöning lives in Wismar and has been studying “Scenic Arts” with a focus on media at the University of Hildesheim since 2018. During a semester abroad in Finland she studied photography and fine arts. Her artistic interest lies mostly in documentary projects, both photographic and filmic.
