“Inside the jelly basin - how Miku became a jellyfish” injects the animated idol star Hatsune Miku into the metamorphic life cycle of a jellyfish, one of the first complex creatures on this planet. As they benefit from rising temperatures and polluted seas, they could also be among the last.
The performance focuses on the different dissemination mechanisms, which are surprisingly similar in their virality. Both jellyfish and the animations on the Internet are successful concepts in systems that were largely shaped by human activity. Both are in a permanent process of cloning and modification, which can be controlled individually but not as a whole.
The team is broadly based: Benjamin works between media performance, film and installation. Since 2018 he studies stage design and time-related media at the HFBK Hamburg. Sven works as a violin maker and jazz musician in Groningen. Luca has been studying creative writing since last year. Jakob, Junya and Sophia are also studying together at the HFBK Hamburg.
Director and costumes: Benjamin Janzen
Performance: Sophia Leitenmeyer und Paulina Jaskowski
Double bass: Sven Otte
Camera: Jakob Karpus
Sound design: Junya Fujita
With a poem by: Luca Skarupke
Notes:
The performance is streamed live.
Only suitable for sighted and hearing audiences, no audio transcription
