This work began to take shape during the lockdown in winter 2021, when many institutions changed their focus to online studies. Those artists, who didn’t work with digital media faced the question: how to connect our artistic craftsmanship “which is self-evident in our art expression”, with this new imposed digital display.
The installation brings together painting, sculpture and 3d video art and gives these different media a chance to exist together under the principle of nature. And what is it to be understood as “the principle of nature? ”This means to coexist in harmony, complementing each other.
In the process the artists came up with a slug character. The nudibranch, which presents itself in different shapes, is placed in imaginary environments. The slugs move slowly. They trail over different surfaces and exist in digital and hardware spaces. They gather on organic remains of imaginary trees, collect in artificial potholes and slide through empty billboard landscapes. As a metaphor to our lives during lockdown, which drag along with no foreseeable end, the slugs, despite all their sluggishness, are always on the move. They keep eating, dancing, hiding and breathing life into deserted places.
Julia in Natalia started studying at the Hfbk in the same year. At first, Natalia worked a lot with sculptures, now attends the design class and carries out her work digitally. Julia has always been involved in sculpture and painting, is in the painting class, experimenting with combining space, image and object. Despite different approaches, they stayed in touch during the pandemic and created this joint project.
Artist working with sculpture, painting, mixed media: Julia Jimena Brosemann
Working in drawing, 3d modeling, 3d animation, graphic design: Nataliia Verbova
