70 years of living together. And then they are over from one day to the next. Alfred's wife Gertrud dies completely unexpectedly of a brain hemorrhage, within a few hours. No time to say goodbye, no time to prepare - as far as one can prepare at all for the death of a loved one. Alfred is left with a half-hearted attempt to create something like a new life at 89. He himself has been fighting cancer for years. A fight he would now like to lose. "I can't kill myself either. I won't do that," he says, waiting for the day when he is taken to his wife.
Philomena grew up near Munich. She spent a large part of her childhood with her grandparents. After training as a media designer for image and sound and gaining a few years of professional experience, she moved to Paraguay for a year. Parallelly to studying scenic arts and now literary writing, she works in intercultural children's and youth work.
